Comparison Study of the BLITS and BLIRB Radiative Transport Models

چکیده
This report is one in a series of volumes that document the Weather and Atmospheric Visualization Effects for Simulation (WAVES) suite of models. Each volume describes an aspect of the series of models. This particular report documents a comparison of the surface-based radiative transport (RT) code Boundary Layer Illumination and Transmission for Simulation (BLITS) with the volumetric RT code for Boundary Layer Illumination and Radiation Balance (BLIRB). This comparison is made using a simple three-dimensional (3-D) scenario that consists of a homogeneous cubical cloud filled with an aerosol described by the Deirmendjian type C.l cloud phase function. Comparisons of the two RT models are made relative to results from two separate but consistent Monte Carlo models. For this simple scenario, BLIRB was determined to perform better than BLITS for the complete range of optical depths used. The BLITS model failed to accurately describe the radiant intensity of the scattering in the atmosphere at low optical depths.

Possessions of viscous dissipation on radiative MHD heat and mass transfer flow of a micropolar fluid over a porous stretching sheet with chemical reaction
This article presents the heat and mass transfer characteristics of unsteady MHD flow of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting micropolar fluid in the presence of viscous dissipation and radiation over a porous stretching sheet with chemical reaction. The governing partial differential equations (PDEs) are reduced to ordinary differential equations (ODEs) by applying suitable si...
متن کاملComparison of different mass transport equations for wind erosion quantification purposes in southwest Iran: A wind tunnel study
The objective of this study was to assess the efficiency of three mathematical models (power, exponential and logarithmic functions) for the calculation of the horizontal mass transport (HMT), as compared to the linear spline interpolation for the Cyclone Dust Sampler (CDS) and one with a Cone (CDSC), modified Wilson and Cooke trap (MWAC) and big spring number eight (BSNE). For the purposes of t...
متن کاملInfluence of Thermal Radiation Models on Prediction of Reactive Swirling Methane/Air Flame in a Model Gas Turbine Combustor
A numerical simulation of reactive swirling methane/air non-premixed flame in a new three-dimensional model combustion chamber is carried out to assess the performance of two thermal radiation models, namely, the Discrete Transfer Radiation Model and the P-1 Model. A Finite Volume staggered grid approach is employed to solve the governing equations. The second-order upwind scheme is applied for...
متن کاملANALYSIS OF COMBINED CONDUCTION AND RADIATION HEAT TRANSFER IN A RECTANGULAR FURNACE INCLUDING TWO FLAMES
Abstract: The present study deals the theoretical modeling aspects of coupled conductive and radiative heat transfer in the presence of absorbing, emitting and scattering gray medium within two-dimensional square furnace including two flames. The gray radiative medium is bounded by isothermal walls which are considered to be opaque, diffuse and gray. The well known discrete ordinate method (DOM...
متن کاملComparison and evaluation of intelligent models for river suspended sediment estimation (case study: Kakareza River, Iran)
Sediment transport constantly influences river and civil structures and the lack ofinformation about its exact amount makes management efforts less effective. Hence, achieving a proper procedure to estimate the sediment load in rivers is important. We usedsupport vector machine model to estimate the sediments of the Kakareza River in LorestanProvince and the results were compared with those obta...
